The 2020 Volvo XC60 has some tough competition to take on in its competitive segment. The new XC60 indeed has to take on established competitors like the Audi Q5, the most popular Audi vehicle on sale in Canada and a constant best-seller in its class. That said, the Volvo does have the tools to compete with the Q5 and more importantly, to meet the needs of buyers who want comfort, refinement, and luxury in their compact SUV.
Step inside either the Volvo XC60 or the Audi Q5 and you will be met with a stunning interior that looks as good as it is built. The craftsmanship in new Volvo vehicles is a cut above, however, and the large centre touchscreen is not only a highlight piece of the interior, it’s also functional, easy to use and intelligently designed. The interior of the 2020 Audi Q5 looks fine and the build quality is certainly there, but some may find that it’s lacking a spark to really make it shine.
Under the hood, the 2020 Volvo XC60 offers a range of powerful engines including the base T5 engine which delivers 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine offers a little bit more power than the base Q5 engine and they reach 100 km/h in about the same time (6.5 seconds).
The 2020 Volvo XC60 T6 features a powerful turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. As fast on the sprint to 100 km/h as the Audi SQ5, it’s quite a bit less expensive than the latter while also being more fuel-efficient.
The XC60 is also offered with an efficient and very powerful T8 plug-in hybrid engine that delivers 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque while also offering almost 30 kilometres of pure electric driving range. The Q5 also has a PHEV version, but power is capped at 362 horsepower with range being just about identical.
