That leaves buyers with a simpler question than usual: not which plug-in hybrid has the longer range or the stronger motor, but which body style and cabin layout actually fits daily life.

Performance and Range
Both SUVs use the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor built into the rear axle, for a combined system output of about 455 hp. The XC60 accelerates from 0 to 97 km/h (60 mph) in 4.5 seconds, while the slightly larger XC90 does the same in 4.9 seconds. Top speed on both is limited to 180 km/h.
The electric range is where the two start to differ. The XC60 covers up to 126 km on battery power alone, while the XC90 covers up to 117 km. Both use a floor-mounted 41.2 kWh battery (37.9 kWh usable), and a full charge on a Level 2 home charger takes about 6 hours in the XC60 and about 7 hours in the XC90. With a full battery and a full tank, Volvo estimates a combined driving range of around 950 km for the XC60 and 901 km for the XC90.
Space and Comfort
The XC60 is the smaller of the two, built as a five-seat SUV with a sportier stance. It also picks up a design refresh this year: a new grille, front bumper, hood, and wheels, along with a redesigned tailgate and rear lights. Inside, a new dashboard and door panel layout, wood trim, and Cardamom coloured Nappa leather give the cabin a warmer feel, helped along by upgraded interior lighting.
The XC90 stays true to its role as a seven-seat family SUV, with more passenger and cargo room across three rows. Its cabin leans on natural light, wood trim, and premium materials for a calm ride on longer trips, and buyers who want a stronger listening experience can add the optional Bowers and Wilkins premium sound system.
Technology and Safety
Both SUVs run an 11.2 inch screen with Volvo Car UX, the company's latest infotainment system, and both now include the Google Gemini voice assistant. Gemini understands everyday language, so a driver can ask it to plan a route, find a stop along the way, or manage a message without searching through menus.
The XC60 also picks up an expanded set of active safety features this year. If the car senses a possible collision, it can warn the driver, brake on its own, or steer around the danger, and it can warn a passenger before they open a door into a passing cyclist. A wider set of radars and cameras supports these features, along with lane change assist and a 360 degree camera with a 3D view.
