The XC60 is a favourite in its segment, bringing loads of style, the latest technologies and efficient performance to drivers and families who want something different out of a luxury SUV. The 2022 model year brings a flurry of changes to the XC60 that aim at keeping it fresh and ahead of the competition.
Here, we take a look at some of the changes.
New mild hybrid powertrains for the 2022 Volvo XC60
The XC60 has replaced its T5 and T6 powertrains with similar setups called B5 and B6. Both of these units utilize a 48-volt hybrid system to enhance performance. Hence, the engine lineup is composed of three different powertrains—B5, B6, and T8. These are all mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and state-of-the-art all-wheel drive.
The B5 engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 48-volt hybrid system with an output of 247 horsepower. The B6 is powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder as the B5, but a supercharger is added for even more performance. This one outputs 295 horsepower.
The plug-in hybrid T8 powertrain uses the precisely calibrated B6 engine at pairs it with set of electric motors for a total of 400 horsepower in the Recharge model. Those who enjoy more performance can also opt for the Polestar Engineered model, which dishes out 415 horsepower with the same setup.
More style and more technologies in the 2022 Volvo XC60
Inside, the XC60 pushes the limits of technology. The Volvo Sensus infotainment system is replaced with an even more intuitive and modern Google Android-based interface. The screen is the same 9.0-inch vertically-oriented shape, but new software offers more personalization options, a voice-assistant feature, and navigation via Google Maps which can be incredibly useful in the city as well as on long trips on the highway.
Outside, the XC60 gets a few styling changes, including a tweaked grille, a new front bumper, updated wheel designs, and the introduction of Volvo's City Weave cloth upholstery as an option for the first time on the XC60.
Volvo also brought upgrades to the XC60's various radar, camera, and ultrasonic sensors that provide data for the SUV's driver-assistance systems.
